Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide “ice caps” near Mars’s south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

“The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,” he said.

Solar Cycles

Abdussamatov believes that changes in the sun’s heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets.

Mars and Earth, for instance, have experienced periodic ice ages throughout their histories.

“Man-made greenhouse warming has made a small contribution to the warming seen on Earth in recent years, but it cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance,” Abdussamatov said.

By studying fluctuations in the warmth of the sun, Abdussamatov believes he can see a pattern that fits with the ups and downs in climate we see on Earth and Mars.

Abdussamatov’s work, however, has not been well received by other climate scientists.

“His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,” said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England’s Oxford University.

“And they contradict the extensive evidence presented in the most recent IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report.”

Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, added that “the idea just isn’t supported by the theory or by the observations.”

Planets’ Wobbles

The conventional theory is that climate changes on Mars can be explained primarily by small alterations in the planet’s orbit and tilt, not by changes in the sun.

“Wobbles in the orbit of Mars are the main cause of its climate change in the current era,” Oxford’s Wilson explained.

All planets experience a few wobbles as they make their journey around the sun. Earth’s wobbles are known as Milankovitch cycles and occur on time scales of between 20,000 and 100,000 years.

These fluctuations change the tilt of Earth’s axis and its distance from the sun and are thought to be responsible for the waxing and waning of ice ages on Earth.

Mars and Earth wobble in different ways, and most scientists think it is pure coincidence that both planets are between ice ages right now.

“Mars has no [large] moon, which makes its wobbles much larger, and hence the swings in climate are greater too,” Wilson said.

No Greenhouse

Perhaps the biggest stumbling block in Abdussamatov’s theory is his dismissal of the greenhouse effect, in which atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide help keep heat trapped near the planet’s surface.

He claims that carbon dioxide has only a small influence on Earth’s climate and virtually no influence on Mars.

But “without the greenhouse effect there would be very little, if any, life on Earth, since our planet would pretty much be a big ball of ice,” said Evan, of the University of Wisconsin.

Most scientists now fear that the massive amount of carbon dioxide humans are pumping into the air will lead to a catastrophic rise in Earth’s temperatures, dramatically raising sea levels as glaciers melt and leading to extreme weather worldwide.

Abdussamatov remains contrarian, however, suggesting that the sun holds something quite different in store.

“The solar irradiance began to drop in the 1990s, and a minimum will be reached by approximately 2040,” Abdussamatov said. “It will cause a steep cooling of the climate on Earth in 15 to 20 years.”

Kaku is one of the founders of string field theory, a field of research within string theory. String theory seeks to provide a unified description for all matter and the fundamental forces of the universe; its key idea is that all particles in the universe are manifestations of the same type of minuscule, vibrating building block called a string. String field theory is an approach seeking to meld the new ideas of string theory with the powerful language used to describe elementary particles to yield a complete description of string dynamics.

Kaku is a tireless popularizer of science. He has written several best-selling popular books, including Hyperspace, selected as one of the best science books of 1994 by both the New York Times and The Washington Post, and Parallel Worlds, a finalist for the Samuel Johnson Prize. His latest, Physics of the Impossible, is a New York Times best-selling book. He is active in both television and radio, working with the BBC and the Discovery Channel and hosting two weekly radio programs which reach 130 cities.

Parts of The Book of Enoch tell the story of wicked angels who abducted and mated with human women, resulting in the hybrid race known throughout secular and Biblical history as the Nephilim.

While this account encompasses only the first four verses of Genesis 6 (but see also Genesis 3:15, 2 Peter 2:4-6, Jude 6-7), Enoch 1 relates this story in great detail. It lists the names of 18 “prefect” angels - of 200 - who committed this sin. According to the text, these angels also taught mankind the “making of swords and knives, shields and breastplates (metallurgy); … magical medicine, dividing of roots (medicinal and hallucinogenic use); incantations, astrology, the seeing of the stars, the course of the moon, as well as the deception of man.”

By Noah’s time, “The earth also was corrupt (wasting - KJV notation) before God, and the earth was filled with violence… all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.” Gen 6:10-11. Afraid of the consequences, these angels appeal to Enoch to intercede with God on their behalf; God instead uses Enoch to deliver a message of judgment against them. Aside from the “taking of wives,” God states that he would not forgive them for teaching mankind magical arts and warlike ways. As summarized by Pastor Chris Ward:

“According to the Book of Enoch (Not a Canonical Text), God judged the angels for producing the Nephilim. God decreed that the fallen angels (Watchers) were to be cast into Tartarus. The Nephilim were also judged and it was determined that their bodies were to return to the earth in peace but their souls were doomed to wander the earth forever (as) wandering spirits…” (Visit Pastor Chris’s Enoch page which reprints this dialogue between God and Enoch, and The Origin of Demons for more.)

The increasing acceptance and popularization of this important book among theologians helps cast light on the extra-terrestrial hypothesis (ETH) in general. Enoch is an ancient writing which states that angels (not true space aliens, as stated by many UFO cults, and popular modern authors Erich Von Daniken and Zechariah Sitchin) visited ancient Earth and polluted mankind’s DNA. While this case can easily be made solely from the canonized Bible (see Relevant Bible Verses), Enoch is yet another witness against these bad interpretations of Earth’s predelulvian era (i.e., before the flood of Genesis 6). The fact that they also gave mankind technology which supposedly “advanced our race” (but which we actually used to destroy each other, and to incur God’s judgment), lends itself to a more sinister understanding of today’s UFO phenomenon…

It was said to be the home of a technologically advanced human-like alien race, the Anunnaki of Sumerian myth, who survived and later came to Earth.

The discovery of new planets in the last two hundred years owes more to mathematics than to bigger telescopes. Mathematical irregularities in the orbits of the outer planets, in particular, strange wobbles and gravitational anomalies noted in the orbits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, have prompted astronomers over the past hundred years to search for a large planetary body in the outer solar system.

The idea that Earth has been visited by aliens at some point in the distant past is not a new one. Erik Von Daniken first touted the theory in his book, The Chariots of the Gods, back in the 1970’s. Many people’s first introduction to this concept has been via Von Daniken’s ideas. While he was widely read, the problem always was that his interpretation of ancient texts and artifacts has always lacked a certain key. Zecharia Sitchin provided that key!

Zecharia Sitchin started his research by questioning Biblical tales while still at school in his native Israel. He notes that parts of Genesis (6:4) reads “There were giants in the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came into the daughters of men, and they bare children unto them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.”
Sitchin went much further examining the old Hebrew texts. He realised that the Hebrew word “Nefilim” was indeeed the name for the giants talked of in the Bible and the “men of renown” were really men of the “shem”. More importantly Nefilim in its original Sumerian interpretation literally means “those who came down to earth from heaven”.

Sitchin goes on to claim that the Earth was visited by aliens as far back as 450,000 years ago. These aliens came from another unknown planet of the solar system that the ancients called called Nibiru. He claims that these aliens were seeking to save their atmosphere from serious degradation and for this they needed extremely finely powdered gold. This gold dust was then pumped into the atmosphere in an effort to resolve the problems associated with heat retention when their planet was in the aphelion region of its long looping orbit around the sun. Gold was, of course, relatively plentiful on Earth and is even used today by NASA because of its unique properties.

Sitchin applied his understanding of ancient Biblical stories to studies of ancient (even older) writing from Sumeria and Mesapotamia, reaching the general conclusion that the Nefilim (Gods and Sons of God) used advanced genetic engineering to create humans from a combination of Nefilim genes and those of a compatible pre-human evolved species. The result was basically us, initially created to mine gold for the Nefilim but later with the capacity to understand commands, speak and procreate!

Zecharia Sitchin studied many ancient civilizations and concluded that the Gods worshipped by all of them were really ancient space travellers with a superb knowledge of advanced technology and a desire for gold! When viewed this way, much of the world’s history, as told in the Bible and other manuscripts, falls into place. Suddenly we can understand why there were gold mines 8-12,000 years old in South and Central America. Sitchin makes the claim that humankind was developed to mine this gold to satisfy their needs.

Sitchin postulated the theory that Nibiru, Planet X, took an eliptical orbit around the Sun (and perhaps a dead star further out). His hypotheses are mapped out as a time and distance ephemeris orbital modeal at this site:

Many catastrophic events in the earth’s past can be explained by the 3600 year cycle of Nibiru. Depending on its distance from the earth at the time of passage, many Biblical disasters such as the Great Flood and the sinking of Atlantis can now be better understood. These events cyclically occure as a result of the immense gravitational pull this planet imposes on the earth and the other planets within the solar system.

Sitchin based many of his observations of Nibiru and its behaviour on historical texts, the Bible and other such material. He especially focused on the Sumerian artifacts that described the Annunaki (the Nefilim/Gods) and their planet, which predated all other human works.

Typically, there are at least two inherent flaws when this question is asked. First, in the United States, and surely other nations, many seek to demonize those with whom they disagree politically. Calling a man the antichrist is essentially declaring him to be Satan incarnate.

Some on the far right were convinced that President Bill Clinton was the antichrist. Some who hold to far left political views were convinced that President George Bush was the antichrist. Now, those who disagree with the political views of Barack Obama are throwing the antichrist label at him as well. This political demonization is ridiculous, as the biblical indicators of who is the antichrist have nothing to do with conservative or progressive politics.

Second, Christians in the United States tend to forget that the end times revolve around the nation of Israel, not the United States. The Bible nowhere explicitly prophesies the existence of the United States. While the United States may have a role in the end times and/or with the antichrist, it is just as possible that the United States will not even exist in the end times.

Would any member of President Obama’s staff dare tell him any such thing today?

Watergate was Nixon’s 800-pound gorilla everybody talked about, who sat there until he broke the sofa. The location of Obama’s birth is an 800-pound gorilla that gets fatter every day and nobody — at least nobody in major media — likes to admit its existence. There’s never been a coming-together of factors resembling this one in America’s entire political history.

At no point until now has the birthplace of a president been anything more than a local chamber-of-commerce item of pride (where I come, from they’re still arguing whether President James Polk was born in Tennessee or North Carolina!). All of a sudden the question of President Obama’s birth place threatens to undermine his very eligibility to serve, and to toss America into a constitutional crisis of unfathomable proportions.

In-depth journalism here would instinctively immerse itself in the growing blizzard of lawsuits launched by activists seeking “standing” (Do you have the right to question the president’s eligibility to serve?) and writs of certiorari (Hey, Court! Will you please hear this case?). In-depth journalism would detail how many and who in which states are making the pile of challenges zoom.

In-depth journalism would distinguish between the challenges to President Obama’s legitimacy on grounds of his alleged birth in Kenya versus his alleged status as a British subject by virtue of his father’s citizenship. That’s what in-depth journalism would do.

This may sound strange, but I believe this is a time for simple — even superficial — journalism. Let’s keep the flight deck as uncluttered as possible and stick to what we all know for sure.

The Constitution insists that the president be a natural-born American. We have the president’s paternal grandmother claiming she was present at his birth in Kenya, and we have a TV talk host named Keith Olbermann who tells those who say things like that to put the Reynolds Wrap back on their heads. We have no proof that Grandma was there or that Obama doubters like to wear Reynolds Wrap on their heads.

We know a few facts for certain. And our knowledge is disturbing. We know that President Obama is either covering up the truth of his birthplace or, and this is an Olympic stretch, refusing to offer proof because of some unstated “principle.” I recall many college post-midnight bull-sessions debating whether taking the Fifth Amendment to avoid self-incrimination was really anything but an admission of guilt bathed in a hoped-for constitutional respectability. The “admission of guilt” side won every time.

The “grandmother-was-there” story really began before the election. The scenario goes as follows: His mother wanted to fly from Kenya to Hawaii so she could give birth in Hawaii, but she was too pregnant to fly. She therefore gave birth in Kenya and later had Barack registered in Hawaii.

We’ve not been allowed to see the president’s birth certificate. Instead we’ve been offered something nobody ever heard of called a “certificate of live birth” from the state of Hawaii. If all this culminates in the revelation that Barack Obama is not, in fact, eligible to serve as president of the USA, this will go down as his team’s biggest mistake. The American people may not be all we used to be, but we’re not yet ready to roll over and smile at the sight of a confection designed to masquerade as a birth certificate while we’re being angrily denied a look at the real thing.

Do a little thought-experiment. Let’s talk “probably.” If the president were unjustly accused of being ineligible to serve and the chorus became nationally audible, what would he probably do?

Probably what would happen would be the press secretary would talk to a subordinate five layers down and instruct him to talk to a subordinate another five layers down (the coffee-fetching level) and instruct him to have copies of the president’s birth certificate — nothing else, please — printed and made available at the next White House news conference. That’s a mosquito swat too small to make anybody’s memoirs.

That’s quite far from what’s happening.

We’re getting nothing but angry cries of “garbage” from the administration whenever anybody dares hint at a problem or even a question. And the entire press corps seems to be in an intimidation hammerlock. Look how successfully the administration has handled this. Not only is the birth certificate issue taboo but also we’re not allowed to see Obama’s applications to Columbia and Harvard. Such forms may have inconvenient answers to questions like, “Citizenship?” “Place of birth?” etc. Yet none of the working reporters dares say anything about any of this. And if one ever did, he would be pounced upon and devoured, not by the administration piranhas, but by their own brother and sister journalists.

How can the White House press corps refrain from any such questioning and then look at their faces in a mirror while shaving or applying mascara?

Disclosure: I don’t care where an American president was born. I do care about the Constitution. A businessman who keep two sets of books goes to jail. It’s worse when a country lists which laws we must obey and which we’re free to ignore.

In the fairy tale, a 6-year-old boy brought the regime down by saying, “The emperor has no clothes!”

Trouble is, they don’t allow 6-year-olds in White House news conferences.
